Horn Trimming:

A proven way to protect rhino from poaching is to humanely remove their horn under the supervision of a vet, making the animal a less attractive target to a poacher. Rhino Revolution has been at the forefront of organizing extensive horn trimming programmes and with our support, poaching has dropped in many reserves. Research studies into horn trimming prove there is little impact on rhino behaviour or quality of life. All removed horn is legally recorded and placed under secure protection.

Rewilding:

Rhino Revolution has a strong history of operating our own rhino orphanage, dedicated to caring for orphaned calves with the primary goal of eventually releasing them back into the wild. Our tireless efforts have yielded groundbreaking outcomes, most notably the successful re-wilding of “The Lucky Five.” This achievement represents a world first: a wild-born calf from a truly rewilded orphan cow, fathered by a wild bull. Although these rhinos have returned to their natural habitat, we remain vigilant, closely monitoring their safety and well-being.

Following the closure of our orphanage, we forged partnerships with other rehabilitation centers. Through these collaborations, we assist in the rewilding of other orphaned rhinos, relocating them to even larger reserves. Our expertise plays a crucial role in our collective mission to increase the world’s wild rhino population.

In more recent activities, we are actively involved in moving rhinos to ensure the continued growth of their population. Stay tuned for further updates as we work tirelessly to protect these magnificent creatures! .

Anti-poaching:

Rhino Revolution directly supports several anti-poaching measures. We have extended our assistance to numerous reserves where rhinos roam freely. Our contributions include supporting security cameras, funding K9 units, and backing community projects. These efforts ensure the safety of the rhino population by patrolling and preventing suspicious activities.

Additionally, we maintain our own canine patrol, led by Vulcan, our K9 dog, who actively safeguards our rhinos. We also oversee the deployment of new technology, such as smart cameras capable of detecting threats and alerting security teams promptly. In the past, we successfully operated a mounted patrol unit undertaken by Rhino Revolution staff and volunteers.

Our commitment remains unwavering as we strive to protect these magnificent creatures from harm. Together, we can make a difference!

Education:

RR runs several community engagement programs designed to educate local communities on the importance of Rhino - and all wildlife - to the local economy. Sadly, despite being on their doorstep, many local children have never been to a private game reserve or the Kruger National Park. Rhino Revolution run programs to change this, ensuring first hand experience of endemic wildlife, in turn encouraging advocacy for the value of conservation. We also support programs to educate visitors on the conservation challenges rhino face. Plans are being developed for a new Education Centre that would be run by Rhino Revolution, to step up the level of both local community and visitor engagement.

koru camp

Rhino Revolution utilizes Koru Camp strategically to tackle educational challenges. Located in the Greater Kruger area, the camp aims to connect disadvantaged local communities with their natural heritage, fostering environmental appreciation. With a capacity for 12 children and a teacher, the camp ensures high-quality care by maintaining a small group size. Supervised by Rhino Revolution staff, it features tents for accommodation, a central area for lessons and meals, and basic facilities. The property is secured by an electric fence. Koru Camp serves as a model for sustainable educational initiatives, offering safari game drives and open-air "Eco Classroom" lessons by Rhino Revolution. All meals are provided, often ensuring three meals a day for many children for the first time.

Anna's Emergency Rescue Wildlife Fund

In memory of the inspirational Anna Mussi, who devoted herself to Rhino Revolution and animal rescue, we have established "Anna's Emergency Wildlife Rescue Fund." With tremendous support from Anna's followers and generous donations, we have raised over R200,000. This fund will enable us to provide essential emergency veterinary procedures and cover transportation expenses for swift response to critical situations. Through this initiative, we aim to continue Anna's legacy and make a lasting impact in animal conservation, honoring her passion for the well-being of all creatures and creating a brighter future for them.
